Why it is Best to Enjoy Where You are On Your Journey
In modern society, we are all chasing and striving for goals and we fail to stop and be grateful for where we are. Everything is available in an instant and we struggle with patience and focus. We want instant gratification. This can lead us to devalue the journey we are on. We look at people who “made it” and wonder, why we can’t be there right now? What we fail to realize is all the years of struggle and practice it took most of those people to get where they are. Yes, there are a select few that jump to the top in an instant, but this is not typical.
Patience has never been my strong suit and there are days when I want to be the best at what I do, right now. Like everyone else, I have an idea of what I want in my life and get frustrated when it doesn’t come as soon as I’d like. I work hard every day to achieve this ideal, but have to remind myself that hard work guarantees nothing. This only “buys us the right to succeed.” I am still new to what I am doing in my career path and I will not be satisfied with all of my performances. However, there is no failure, only learning opportunities. Every time I get a chance to work with a new group, I am learning something about myself and how others respond to my methods. This will help me grow as a coach and a person.
What if the goals I am chasing are not what is supposed to happen in my life? Maybe the work we are doing is there to open other opportunities that could be greater than we ever imagined. Last week, I was discussing this topic with two friends. Both of whom were doing well in their career paths when an incredible opportunity came along. They had the choice to leave what they built and partner with others to build something bigger or they could allow their ego to win and hold on. They both chose to take a chance and leave their creation behind because they knew joining the right team would create something that they couldn’t do on their own. This hit me pretty hard. I started to think about what I would do if an opportunity like this came along for me? The only thing I know today is that the work I am doing right now is just the beginning. The knowledge I am gaining and the relationships I am creating will help me become more than I can imagine. Remember to be open to all opportunities and that the universe conspires for you.
