Three Lessons from a Month off Instagram
Over the past month, I deleted Instagram off of my phone. I decided to do this after joining the True Core Health challenge to take weekends off social media during the month of October. This was an enlightening and wonderful challenge. I learned a lot and wanted to give you three of my biggest takeaways.
1. FOMO can lead to PRESENCE. At first, I had a lot of FOMO about what all of my friends in the social media world were doing. You could call it a low level of anxiety by not being able to scroll through my feed and see all the fun adventures. But, after the first weekend, these faded and I found myself more present in what I was doing and who I was with.
2. Enjoy the moment. Social media brings a lack of enjoyment into what we are actually doing. Look around at any event and everyone is on their phones setting up pics and videos to post on Instagram. When you quit worrying about posting you can enjoy the experience of life. Don’t document to show others what you are doing; have fun actually doing it.
3. Boredom is good. Without the ability to check social whenever the feeling of boredom comes up, you begin to work your creativity muscle. Ideas begin to form and problems are solved at a rapid pace when you just sit and be.
Given the above, I recommend everyone give this a try and see how attached you are. See what happens when you put down the phone and enjoy what is in front of you. Don’t be afraid to step away from the matrix and see what can happen. With the year coming to a close, this is a great time to start. Trust me, you will learn about yourself and enjoy the moment more.
